The Amazing World of Water

Today I wanted to write a bit more of a fun blog that was also super geeky. So, I have decided to share some of my favourite facts about water. Some you will know already I'm sure, but hopefully a few will surprise you!

  1. The water you drink today contains the exact same molecules that the Dinosaurs drank.

  2. Water can exist in three states; solid, liquid and gas. It is the only natural substance that can do so.

  3. A tap that drips at a rate of once per second will waste approximately 11,000 litres of water in a year.

  4. Our brains are approximately 70% water.

  5. A Jellyfish is about 95% water, very similar to a cucumber.

  6. Water dissolves more substances than any other liquid, including Sulfuric acid.

  7. Only 1% of the earths water is available for human consumption.

  8. Since it was created, the Earth has always contained the same amount of water.

  9. The water in the Atlantic Ocean contains more salt than that in the Pacific Ocean.

  10. Only about 3% of water used in an average home is used as drinking water.

  11. Over 10,000 litres of water is used to produce just one pair of jeans.

  12. Pure water DOES NOT conduct electricity.

  13. When heated to extreme temperatures, water can be used to melt some metals such as aluminium and copper.

  14. Water leaves our stomach only 5 minutes after drinking it. To rehydrate quicker, drink and then eat.

There you have it, a few of my favourite water based facts. Hopefully this entertained you for a short period of your lunch break and gives you some interesting conversation starters for the local pub this weekend.
